Poetry - Views of the Author

"Ode to Kaelin"

Comes spring in the yellow/green mountains,
bloom in the fragrant air....

And she was there, tender was her soul, so near the
roots and the sky...

Like pre-dawn, she grabbed a look, magic like so many
finely painted spring wild flowers sinking into the patched
and roughened fields...Seeds of earlier times....

And now the days come without her, in the bright fields no
more,
muscle of the past, her bones feeding the soils of nature
forever,
rolling into the magnificence and infinity of earth's
forever time.

A tear for a brief moment for the forgotten ones, let their
beauty feed your heart and it's soils...and some shall
never forget!

More Prose

"A Past Love fleeting...No Compromises!"

She stood quite naked in the orange morning's sun,
rays shooting across her moist skin...
she drew me in yet again, like honey comb to a bee.

Every part of her enticed me, called me to her dampened self drying in the hot
and turbid air of mountain glens.

For 'H' was like a mountain wildflower petal, glowing in
the morning's sun essence....

She was woman's perfection an exciting body in balance with nature
around her...

She called to silent man standing there, enticing him magically once again
with eons of connection between sexes....

Coming together, the sun still beating upon the leaves and tender golden
skins...OH the skins touching in all the sacred places where hearts cling and
the beating drives to oneness...again and again in the rhythm of life
forever gained between lovers and time...

Revelation now! Yet the sounds of metal still surround me in dream....

Even More Poetry

The following poem does a phenomenal job of summing up the overall feel and sense that Steve Dreben's novels surround.

Poison

You run through my blood... every cell
You fill me with space to breath and open to...
You give me notes for my children to sing
And you are my destiny and my love

You have your place deep inside me
I cannot turn from you, but I must pass you... too.
And within the womb/wall of my scrapping my eggs on my children's
Souls...from generation to generation, from those who have
Passed to the young...

I pray that you can deliver the spiteful blows on those that
Have deserted me, on those who have abandoned me for/others
I break at the purity of your deadly sting, at the depth of the
Internal/external gashing-bruising you bring
And I stand in the innocence of children's blind-weakness and
Regards, you are the giver of my power... through the
Deep intolerance and stubborn bile you draw all into...for me
You are the giver of all my contorted desires, you are the
Great equalizer of all past grievance.

I bathe in your warmth and dark/sacred waters and you are mine, and
I am yours...suspended together in the bliss of eternal revenge
Swooping down like black crows to eat lingering maggots...or
On those that have sinned against US...the corpses left...

My sleep goes well in the comfort of another sight where my silent blackened prayers
Are met, and I can smile like the Madonna in paint at all the stars that
Shower above me...for you are the souless foul that opens my heart to
Joy...and yet I am innocent/not guilty; yes, you are my sole judge for all who attempt
Seeing...no poison just the smile of a Mother at peace...just a twist player
Devouring all who must be mothered still.

Eternity is mine...I have won...the game is over...and sweet death
Can come for I am in still waters. I am at peace at my Father before me...
Innocent!!!!
